Educational Interpreters

School interpreters (also called educational interpreters) provide specialized interpreting services within the school setting.

IEP (Individualized Education Plan) teams meet to discuss and determine a plan of action for providing appropriate educational services to students with special needs. School interpreters will have specialized knowledge of IEPs and will work with the team to ensure the information is clearly communicated to all and the IEP is properly implemented.

An interpreter for a specific student will help maximize the student’s learning and facilitate better communication between teacher and student. This school interpreter will adapt his or her interpretation to the student’s age and developmental capacity, and will collaborate with teachers to familiarize himself or herself with the curriculum and other resources needed to most effectively interpret.
